Barracuda Networks Support

Cyfin Reporter is designed to work with Barracuda Networks Firewall using syslog.  It integrates easily into your current system configuration.

Cyfin Reporter is installed on a server, not on the Barracuda Networks appliance

Logfile Setup

Logfile Type:  Barracuda Networks

Configuration Notes

Special Instructions:

  1. Install a syslog daemon. Download Kiwi's Syslog daemon.
  2. Make sure the machine running the Syslog daemon is running behind the firewall on the LAN.
  3. In the Syslog field, type the IP address of the Syslog daemon.
  4. You should now start seeing traffic from the firewall on the syslog daemon.  On the Syslog services go to the DNS setup and enable the Resolve Host option; this is very critical to get Cyfin working.
  5. On the Syslog daemon, create a directory (i.e., C:\barracuda\logs).  Now, using the logging to file option in the Kiwi setup configuration, set up the Syslog program to log the data into the log file.  Important: The Kiwi syslog option for the log file date format needs to be the following:  kiwi format mm-dd-yyyy {Tab delimited}
  6. Also in the Kiwi Syslog Daemon setup, expand out to DNS Resolution.  Highlight  DNS Setup.  In the right side pane, make certain that you uncheck the two boxes saying "Resolve internal addresses using NetBIOS" and "Resolve internal addresses using DNS Server". Having these two items checked adds extra fields to the logs which makes them unreadable to the product.
  7. Install Cyfin and the Syslog daemon on the same server and make sure that the reporting feature is targeting the logfile used by the Syslog daemon.
